About Lake Norman

In the early years of Lake Norman, many considered it a lovely site for summer cottages. However, through the years, Lake Norman has been discovered as a wonderful place to live and now is a home for thousands. Lake Norman has 520 miles of shoreline and 33,000 acres of surface area. It was created by Duke Power in 1963 as a source of energy for the piedmont region of North Carolina. Lake Norman’s beautiful sunsets, lush landscape and tranquil waters are right where you need them – only twenty minutes north of Charlotte, and only a short drive to the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains or the warm ocean waters of the Atlantic.
